Bensalem Pistolet - Raku Fired Ceramic Sculpture
Bensalem Pistolet - Raku Fired Ceramic Sculpture
Raku Rayguns are one-of-a-kind ceramic sculptures made by West Magoon. They are inspired by alien technology unearthed at a secret UFO crash site, known only to a tribe of Wyoming Hill People. Each raygun is named after a science fiction author, character or device.
The title of this raygun was inspired by the novel "New Atlantis" by Francis Bacon. This blunderbuss-style pistol combines the simplicity of flint lock technology with an ornate level of adornment that harkens back to the Victorian age. The Bensalem Pistolet incorporates various glass parts that provide little windows into the glowing innards. Textured metallic surfaces reflect the ever-changing luminescence, pulsating menacingly from within. The last photo combines a series of shots that give an idea of the color changes that the installed lights are capable of producing.
The Raku Rayguns are sized for the human hand. This one measures about 19" long by 14" tall. The Pistolet is meant to be displayed on a horizontal surface. The raygun rests on brass hooks embedded in the plaque which provide a sturdy support. The cord of the led lights inside the gun emerges from underneath the base of the raygun and plugs into a wall socket. A remote control is provided, to turn the lights on and off and to choose different colors and/or effects.
The visual roots that inspire these sculptures include sci-fi magazine covers from the 30's,40's and 50's, the styling cues from 50's automobiles, and design elements from Art Deco and Art Nouveau which contribute to the Steampunk flavor of the Raku Rayguns.
When shipping, we very carefully wrap each raygun in yards of bubble wrap and double-box them.
