Hamilton Blue Ray of Death - Raku Fired Ceramic Sculpture
Raku Rayguns are one-of-a-kind ceramic sculptures made by West Magoon. They are inspired by alien technology unearthed at a secret UFO crash site, known only to a tribe of Wyoming Hill People. Each raygun is named after a science fiction author, character or device.
This rifle-style raygun features glass elements as part of the gun barrel and scope. The green glass orb in the scope has quite a depth to it and seems to glow as if lit from within. The cobalt blue glaze in this gun is combined with a very bright copper-penny lustre, crackled chartreuse green, as well as a gnarly, mottled brown-black. The butt of the gun features a "window" revealing copper colored gears.
The Raku Rayguns are sized for the human hand. This one measures about 25" long by 11" tall. Each Raku Raygun comes with a ceramic moon crater plaque wall mount. The gun rests on brass hooks embedded in the plaque which provide a sturdy support. The plaque has an attached wire on the back, for hanging on the wall.
The visual roots that inspire these sculptures include sci-fi magazine covers from the 30's,40's and 50's, the styling cues from 50's automobiles, and design elements from Art Deco and Art Nouveau which contribute to the Steampunk flavor of the Raku Rayguns.
